SportGate — Ministry of Youth Sports Portal

National digital portal for the Maldives' Commissioner of Sports, used by clubs, associations and academies to reserve names, register organizations and file statutory submissions online. Citizens sign in with the national eFaas identity, and staff review requests in a two-step admin workflow.

SportGate — Ministry of Youth Sports Portal

Overview

SportGate is the official digital platform of the Commissioner of Sports, under the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness in the Maldives. It was launched on 31 March 2026 by the Minister of Sports and the Commissioner of Sports. It connects the country's sports clubs, associations and academies with the regulator. It replaces paper-based correspondence with online applications, a central document store and public registries.

Key Features

  • Name reservation & registration: Organizations reserve a name online, then register as a club, association or academy once the name is approved.
  • Statutory submissions: Executive committee (ExCo) registrations, annual reports, logo and flag approvals, players and officials, release requests and venue bookings.
  • Sports Veteran recognition: Individuals can apply for Sports Veteran status, and approved veterans appear in a public registry.
  • Public registries: Searchable listings of national associations, clubs, associations, academies and sports veterans, plus an events section.
  • National identity login: Citizens sign in through eFaas, the Maldives' national identity provider. Admins use email and password with an SMS one-time code.
  • Two-step approval workflow: An admin console routes every request through a verifier and then an approver, with role-based access control and SMS notifications.

Technical Highlights

  • A single Next.js 15 (App Router) and React 19 application in TypeScript serves the public pages, the citizen dashboards and the admin console.
  • PostgreSQL is accessed through Prisma, with a schema of around 60+ models covering organizations, requests, approvals and bookings.
  • Documents are stored in S3-compatible object storage (AWS S3 or MinIO).
  • The app generates PDF and Word documents such as certificates and letters (jsPDF, pdf-lib, docxtemplater).
  • The UI uses Tailwind CSS 4 and Radix UI primitives, with support for Dhivehi text input.
  • The app runs behind Cloudflare, and the public pages are prerendered by Next.js.
