Opero — Operations Platform for Maldives Operators

Overview

Opero is a multi-tenant SaaS for Maldivian excursion and activity operators, and it is being extended to hotels and guest houses. The tagline is "Run the whole operation": sell at the counter, take payment, band the guest, scan them in, queue them, feed them, board them and count the drawer. The excursion suite is free to use, with no subscription, setup fee or commission. Opero is made up of several apps that share one Laravel API:

Key Features

Counter POS & bookings – Walk-in and scheduled sales with live availability and capacity checks, quantity tiers, add-ons and printed receipts.
Multi-currency payments – Accepts MVR, USD and EUR, and locks the exchange rate at the moment of payment. Cash drawers count rufiyaa notes, petty cash feeds the drawer, and session variance is tracked.
QR wristbands & handheld validation – Staff bind a QR band to each guest, then scan it to check guests in, record item usage, serve queue tokens and confirm boarding on transfer manifests at the jetty.
Field operations – Waivers with captured signatures, participant tracking, speedboat transfers, meal redemption, resource allocation and a staff shift roster.
Agent portal – Travel agents book every operator that onboarded them, at their contracted rates.
Guided onboarding – A setup wizard presets modules by business type and provisions taxes (including Maldives TGST and green tax), currencies and a sample catalogue.

Technical Highlights

Multi-tenancy runs on one database, with tenant context set at login. A global scope and middleware ordering mean a cross-tenant read answers 404, and dedicated isolation tests pin this behaviour.
The backend is API-only, built with Laravel 13 and Sanctum, and returns a consistent JSON envelope. The server is authoritative for totals, taxes and availability, and prices and exchange rates are snapshotted so they are never recalculated.
The web apps use React 19, Vite, TanStack Query, shadcn/ui and React Hook Form with Zod. The handheld app uses Expo and React Native with Expo Router and Zustand.
The repo is a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo. Tests use PHPUnit, Vitest and Jest, and production runs on Docker Compose with nginx, a queue worker, a scheduler, MySQL and Redis.
Architecture decisions are recorded as ADRs, and the API contract is documented.
